Barbara
Korman is a visual artist, living and working in New York City where she maintains
a sculpture studio for the design and production of three dimensional constructions
and unique bronze castings. Korman describes her sculptures as personal landscapes,
informed by Nature.
She travels from the United States National Parks to Nepal's Himalayas making
photographic notations of the land's textures and formations for her future
work. In the studio, she fabricates the bronze models from balsa wood and
wax and is directly involved in the casting and metal finishing of each piece.
The MAGMA SERIES, celebrates the geology and evolution of the earth. The flow,
compression, emergence and erosion of matter. MAGMA refers to the molten material
beneath the solid crust of the earth, from which igneous rock is formed. A
primordial process much like the casting of bronze.
Her award winning works have been exhibited in over one hundred solo and group
shows in leading museums and galleries, including the Metropolitan Museum
of Art , the Queens Museum, the Hudson River Museum and Tiffany and Company
windows. Her sculptures are included in public and private collections throughout
the world.
A graduate of New York City's High School of Music and Art, Korman earned
her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Fine Arts at the New York State College
of Ceramics, Alfred University.
